OARC 39 Call for Contributions

OARC 39 will be a two-day hybrid meeting held on 22 & 23 October in Belgrade, Serbia at 10:00 AM (Local time - CEST (UTC+02:00)) The onsite part of the meeting will be colocated with RIPE 85. The Programme Committee is seeking contributions from the community. All DNS-related subjects and suggestions for discussion topics are welcome. For inspiration, we provide a non-exhaustive list of ideas: - Operations: Any operational gotchas, lessons learned from an outage, details/reasons for a recent outage (how to improve TTR, tooling). - Deployment: DNS config management and release process. - Monitoring: Log ingestion pipeline, analytics infrastructure, anomaly detection. - Scaling: DNS performance management and metrics. Increasing DNS Server Efficiency - Security/Privacy: DNSSEC signing and validation, key storage, rollovers, qname minimization, DoH/DoT As it is a hybrid workshop, we'd like to encourage brevity; presentations should not be longer than 20 minutes (with additional time for questions). **Workshop Milestones:** 2022-07-30 Submissions open via Indico 2022-09-06 Deadline for submission (23:59 UTC) 2022-09-08 Preliminary list of contributions published 2022-09-13 Final Contribution list published 2022-09-20 Full agenda published 2022-10-03 Deadline for slideset submission and Rehearsal 2022-10-22 OARC 39 Workshop - Day1 2022-10-23 OARC 39 Workshop - Day2 The Registration page and details for presentation submission are published at: <https://www.dns-oarc.net/oarc39> To allow the Programme Committee to make objective assessments of submissions, so as to ensure the quality of the workshop, submissions SHOULD include slides. Additional information for speakers at OARC 39: * your talk will be broadcast live and recorded for future reference * your presentation slides will be available for delegates and others to download and refer to, before, during and after the meeting * Remote speakers have mandatory rehearsal on 2022-10-04 at 14:00 UTC. It would be very useful to have your slides (even if draft) ready for this. Advice regarding selling a /24

Hi All, I've been directed to this mailing list by a work colleague as a place to ask advice regarding selling a /24. I was recently approached by a relative regarding an IPv4 /24 block, as he received an email from APNIC stating that a membership account would need to be opened, and the block validly claimed by 1 Jan 2023, or they would be placed into reserved status. They were assigned around 1992 and haven't been used for anything since at least the early 2000s. As they predate APNIC, they're deemed "historical resources". He has no need for a block this size and is hence looking to sell it. I've not dealt with such things before so am looking for some advice as how I would go about doing so. It seems like using an IP broker might be a way forward (though I couldn’t find any based in NZ, I assume any would do, especially with inter-RIR transfers possible). Another way might be to contact ISPs directly? Either way, I’m assuming (and correct me if I’m wrong here) he’d have to open a membership account and properly claim the IPs before any sale would be possible. This looks like it would cost around 1700 NZD so I’m trying to get an idea of the process before committing to that. Regards, Thomas

Hello NZNOGers, I'm an academic (see my UM page <https://www.um.edu.mt/profile/etiennedepasquale> and my ResearchGate page <https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Etienne-Victor-Depasquale>), with a research interest in standardizing architectures for the benefit of energy analysts (like me). I'm asking for your help through your response to a questionnaire that forms part of an academic study that I'm carrying out <https://forms.gle/AAJokyg98JLW7Ti6A>. The study is directed solely towards facilitating understanding of metro area networks, for analysts who approach from the perspective of energy consumption. The study is anonymous (no individual or company names are solicited), and individual responses will only be used in aggregate. Hi all, We've passed the 10th anniversary of World IPv6 Launch Day, but it doesn't seem like we've got very far? What happened to the Task Force? The site says it's archived, or is there a new one? Cheers, Richard

the data shows a slightly higher IPv6 use on weekends and public holidays over weekdays. This pattern is more widespread than just NZ of course. Hi NZNOG folk, I was reading an ETNO report about problems with Broadband deployment in Europe (https://www.etno.eu/news/all-news/8-news/742-8-questions-fair-contribution.…) and similar issues in Korea, where the carriers are advancing the proposition “the big streamers should pay”. But I also read somewhere that NZ in well underway with Gbps consumer services and there seems to be no such problems from the carriers in NZ. I know it's a very generic question, but I was wondering, what is the current picture on price and performance of retail fibre broadband services in New Zealand? thanks, Geoff
