Hi, So Don's post made me think about how many networks do we have active today at 30 years old. What have I missed or which ones shouldn't be on here? Internet in NZ: 30 years today

Since nobody else seems to have noticed ... ... today is the 30th anniversary of the Internet reaching NZ. On 16 April 1989, John Houlker plugged in the PACCOM link connecting the University of Waikato, via an analogue circuit on the ANZCAN cable,to the University of Hawaii and thence to the Internet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98xdUWja_aM Also of note was that on 1 April 1989, the Telecommunications Amendment Act 1988 came into force, formally ending the century-old NZPO/Telecom regulated telecommunications monopoly. LocalCloud IaaS | service closure

Hello NZNOG'ers! A quick heads up that I have closed down LocalCloud’s VMware IaaS clusters in Auckland and Hamilton. For me this means semi retirement. I would like to thank the folk here who have helped us along the way from the mid 1990’s through to today. First with 2Day Internet, and then LocalCloud. It’s been a blast, but it's now time for me to find other things to occupy my time. I will for the time being continue to take care of the .AQ (Antarctica) ccTLD and a hand full of customers who migrated to Microsoft Azure. We have some useful IPv4 net blocks we would like to transfer to another APNIC member. Also available is a bunch of Dell (compute and storage) and Juniper kit (EX and MX series). None of this is free, but I am keen to move it on so we can get our living room back! Please indicate your interest by contacting me off list. Spoofer Report for NZNOG for Jan 2019

In response to feedback from operational security communities, CAIDA's source address validation measurement project (https://spoofer.caida.org) is automatically generating monthly reports of ASes originating prefixes in BGP for systems from which we received packets with a spoofed source address. We are publishing these reports to network and security operations lists in order to ensure this information reaches operational contacts in these ASes. This report summarises tests conducted within nzl. DNS flag day - more info somewhere?

Hi all, I hope this is more or less on topic ... I've been testing my zones with the tool at https://dnsflagday.net/ and getting results I don't entirely understand. I get errors from my secondary (ns2), which is a service from my VPS provider, and ok from my master (ns1), which I run myself. But apart from ns2 returning an aa flag for a failed query, I can't see any difference in the results, when I run the query manually from my desktop (having upgraded dnsutils to one that supports +nocookie) Additionally, the tool says an SOA record is returned (from the failed query), and I don't see that. Is there more detailed info somewhere? The tool does say my zone will continue to work but will have issues in the future, so I'm not immediately worried. Cheers, Richard
