Hey all, As the subject says, APNIC was allocated 14/8 and 223/8 today... which does seems a little close after 1/8 and 27/8 in January 2010 - since 1/8 hasn't started, I'm surprised about the new ones. Before APNIC commences allocations and assignments from this space, APNIC has undertaken a study into 1.0.0.0/8. The particular question under investigation here is the extent to which addresses in network 1.0.0.0/8 are an "attractor" for unwanted traffic. In particular, is there a significant level of "leakage" of supposedly private use traffic directed to addresses in 1.0.0.0/8 that leak into the public Internet? The report on this study is now available at http://www.potaroo.net/studies/1slash8/1slash8.html, and two recommendations are included in this report regarding reservations of particular address blocks and further followup studies. All, Please pardon the slightly off topic post, but ACTA negotiations do have some possibly significant implications for ISP's and network operators, with an alternate route to achieving a "3 strikes" law. Following from the issues around copyright law and Section 92A, (3 strikes and termination) is concern about the ACTA negotiations happening in Wellington this week. ACTA is an attempt to bring in restrictions related to the Internet through a plurilateral agreement that is meant to be focused on counterfeiting. InternetNZ ran the PublicACTA event on Saturday to produce a public statement to take to the New Zealand negotiators. I urge you to read the resultant "Wellington Declaration" at www.publicacta.org.nz, and if you feel strongly about the issues, to sign the on-line petition. Regards Keith Davidson

Dear Colleague, This is to notify you that one or more objects in which you are designated for notification have been modified in the NZRR routing registry database. These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers (http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded in the near future.
