Dear Colleague, This is to notify you that one or more objects in which you are designated for notification have been modified in the NZRR routing registry database. These objects are used to configure the various NZIX route servers (http://nzix.net/) so you can expect the relevant servers to be reloaded in the near future. The reloading of the servers is staggered over a period of time so that if you are peering with both servers at an exchange, you can maintain at least one BGP session at all times and consequently a full set of routes. Leakage to 1.0.0.0/8 - comment on known source

Hello, I just joined this group today so wasn't part of the earlier discussion, but saw the mention of leakage in to 1.0.0.0/8 earlier. I thought I'd bring up a particular issue I've seen in the past involving the address 1.0.0.0 . The issue is that the DLink DSL-502T router as shipped in large numbers by Xtra has a flaw in the DNS resolver. If a DNS request for an AAAA record is sent to the router, I've observed it sending back a malformed response packed. This would only be a minor irritation, except that it seems to corrupt the DNS cache such that subsequent requests for A records return the address 1.0.0.0 . I have observed this occurring at two different premises, both with this same router and both having received it as part of Xtra subscription packages. The issue was reported through the standard service desk, but I was unsure of where else it could be reported to. Of course, even if fixed it is unlikely that many shipped units would be updated. Just thought I'd let people know that we have a possibly significant national source of this traffic. While probably fairly low in volume at the moment, it would be entirely possible for example that an update to Windows could trigger a sudden increase. Cheers, Tim

Hi all: Many of you were affected by the 2008 web harvest or have expressed an interest in the 2010 harvest so I am sending you the message below about the outcome of our recent consultation on the Options paper on the 2010 whole of domain web harvest. The decisions on the key issues raised are: Notification - The harvest is scheduled to begin on 12 May 2010. There will be a five-week notification period - The Library will use several channels to communicate about the harvest, including its corporate website, the LibraryTechNZ blog, a Twitter account, various mailing lists and forums, and media releases. Robots.txt - In 2008 the Library made the decision to ignore the robots.txt convention. - For the 2010 harvest, where a robots.txt file exists the harvester will honour robots.txt except when downloading images and other elements that are embedded in other web pages. - Website owners can set specific rules for the Library’s harvester, which will have the user agent string: NLNZHarvester2010 - If you have a very restrictive robots.txt file in place already, we would appreciate it if you could provide a more permissive rule for NLNZHarvester2010 to help us capture a complete copy of your website Location of harvester - After consultation with New Zealand telecom vendors we have decided to run the harvest from the United States using the Internet Archive’s hardware and network infrastructure, as we did in 2008. Root Zone DNSSEC Deployment Technical Status Update

DOCUMENTATION The following draft document was recently published: - Resolver Testing with a DURZ - TCR - Proposed Approach to Root Key Management ICANN has begun the process of formally soliciting expressions of interest for volunteers from the technical community to act as Trusted Community Representatives. These volunteers will witness cryptographic key ceremonies and also carry out various important roles relating to KSK key management. For more information, see: http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-12apr10-en.htm Expressions of interest can be submitted here: http://www.root-dnssec.org/tcr/ DEPLOYMENT STATUS KSR exchanges continue between production platforms at VeriSign and ICANN. Build-out of KSK Key Ceremony facilities at ICANN continues, and both facilities (east- and west-coast USA) are expected to be ready on schedule. The incremental deployment of DNSSEC in the Root Zone is being carried out first by serving a Deliberately Unvalidatable Root Zone (DURZ), and subsequently by a conventionally signed root zone. Discussion of the approach can be found in the document "DNSSEC Deployment for the Root Zone", as well as in the technical presentations delivered at RIPE, NANOG, IETF and ICANN meetings. Twelve of the thirteen root servers have now made the transition to the DURZ. No harmful effects have been identified. Hi, APNIC and NTT are cooperating in a project to investigate the properties of unwanted traffic that is being sent to specific destinations in the address blocks of 14.0.0.0/8 and 223.0.0.0/8. These address blocks have been recently allocated to APNIC from the IANA, and APNIC and NTT are wanting to undertake this investigation prior to the commencement of ordinary allocations. Accordingly, APNIC has authorized AS38639 to advertise routes for 14.0.0.0/8 and 223.0.0.0/8 from now until 26 April 2010, and requests that AS38639's peers and upstreams accept this as a legitimate routing advertisement. thanks, Geoff Huston APNIC
