why not just register nznog.net ? there's no point to second level .nz that isn't covered better by top level domains. On Fri, Oct 11, 2013 at 05:38:31PM +1300, Juha Saarinen wrote:

Yes indeed. Now companies wanting to preserve their names are going to have to register yet-another-permutation. Sure, being able to register domain.nz /instead/ of domain.co.nz is great. But the reality is you're going to need both. If we'd started that way, then fine, but I think the benefits might be a bit over-sold. Mark.

If I understood todays INZ council meeting correctly, there's policies to address these issues without it costing anyone anything right now. iirc folk are going to be able to reserve their 2ld.nz space without payment. I assume you just can't use it without payment. D

So, hopefully there'll be some blacklists, or I'll be lining up to buy '.com' David

com.co.nz is already registered, so I assume they'll have first dibs on 'com.nz'. -- simon

com.net.nz was registered earlier than com.co.nz though.

I think no one will get it unless they all can agree.. Just like I have www.kiwi.nz, I would love to get www.nz Would Edwin,John,Dean,NZMIS, DIA and others say yes.. I don't think so.
FYI it is proposed that certain names such as com.nz and gov.nz will not be released due to the potential for confusion etc. A final policy draft next year will determine which names will not be released. Hopefully not too many but com.nz is highly likely to be on there.
