I had always assumed it was shutdown after southern cross was built, but it's still shown often on cable maps such as the one in that press release:

Tas-2 is still in operation, but it's essentially got a "do not revive" on it. That is, if it gets trawled up, the kraken strikes, or it just stops working for whatever reason, no-one is going to despatch a ship to go and fix it. For the curious, can you give any details on its current capacity, has it been through some upgrades over the years?

I don't know much detail. I gather (Wikipedia) it had an operational life of 25 years (built in 1992) but was out of capacity within two years so the 'upgrades' consisted of new cable systems. It's a 560Mbps (PDH, not SDH/SONET) system.
