Heads up -- deceptive email and phone calls : You SSL Certificate will expire soon
These folk have called our Service desk twice recently claiming that certificates are about to expire (when they were not) and this arrived over night. I know this certificate was renewed a couple of months ago. These attempts to get us to renew are borderline fraudulent so I thought I would warn others... Russell Begin forwarded message:

The attempt is not only too close to be fraudulent, but highly stupid: The expiration date included on the email is in the past (8/23/2006)! Thanks for the heads up cheers,
Russell

They followed up a couple of hours later with another email with the same date in 2010. Enquires with Comodo reveal that this crowd are not in anyway associated with them and that probably means that the whole scheme is a scam I.E. you pay your money and receive nothing -- just like the domain renewal scams. A Google search seems to imply that they are a "legitimate" (for some definition of that word) Comodo reseller, based in San Jose, CA. However I'm sure if Comodo were to get wind of what they are doing here their reseller status wouldn't be around for too much longer... Scott
