Hi, I'd quite like to get my hands on a copy of Marco D'itri's zebra/quagga dump parser. Currently the site http://www.linux.it/~md/software/zebra-dump-parser.tgz is unreachable, does anyone have a copy locally? cheers jamie

For any Xtra techos out there, we have a customer getting mail
sent back after 4 day with "Host msa.hinet.net is not responding"
(See below)
msa.hinet.net seem to be a Taiwanese Telco.
They have 12 MX records for that domain and each MX as around 9
addresses, so they have over 90 mailservers.
So whatever the problem is, routing, blocking etc, it's not
Host is not responding.
Thanks.

My DNS servers have neither MX nor A record for msa.hinet.tw.
$ telnet msa.hinet.tw 25
telnet: could not resolve msa.hinet.tw/25: Name or service not known
If that's the case though, I'd expect the mail to be bounced rather
than queued.
Hinet is indeed a Taiwanese ISP and famous mainly for not doing
anything noticable about spam/abuse complaints IIRC.
<grumble>Plus, this list isn't for XTRA tech-support.>

Sorry - you're right; msa.hinet.net does seem to accept a SMTP session from here.

Could well be - I gave up complaining to them a few years ago, but I'll start trying again. cheers, Jamie
Thanks for the people who have replied, to the list and to me personally.
Before things get sidetracked too much, as I mentioned, the problem is
with msa.hinet.net, not msa.hinet.tw.
msa.hinet.net has a workings DNS and set of MX's.

Hmm, Deja Vu... Oh, look: http://list.waikato.ac.nz/pipermail/nznog/2006-May/011527.html Mark.
What’s happened to this list? Seems it’s moved away from technical side of things and turned into some pseudo-political list for the ISP industry, this is shown in the steady shrinking of messages posted and the disturbing level of flame wars (I.e. Telecom Paging interface). Lets recap what the past 2 months Topics have been July: Mobile Data & Voip, Spammers, Dns Issue June: Power Down in 09, Telecom TCP/IP Paging Interface, Bit's of net history in NZ And look at what we were talking about a year ago July: NTP, SPF & Spam, ISP Map's and Locations, New IX Locations, Upload Speeds, Vpn's in 04, June: Telecom's Pest Control/Rat's and Fibre Optics, Trademe Problems, NZ Ip's, Telstra Faults, NetScreen help Something’s seriously wrong when there is more coverage on TV3 than NZNOG about the governments decision to go ahead with LLU, we got like 12 messages on it. No one has even really talked about the sale of 3.5 GHz microwave spectrum and the Wimax trials that are currently in progress, a lot of issue slip beneath the radar list because it's "off-topic". While I’m ranting I’m aware that some on the list think that a issue with the countries largest ISP isn't list-worthy but when a potential 300,000 people drop off the face of the net it always has a flow on effect to other's in the industry, if posting to the list and asking the question can save anyone some time or hair on their head then I personally think it's worth while. It's not exactly like it's clogging up the list because we have 100's of messages to read every morning We are all relatively smart people here and I would like to think of this list as a place where we can come to and ask question, give answers and collectively come up with solutions to issues facing the users of our respective networks. Enough with the flame's and the "Can we please kill this thread" comments, let's get the list back to a place where we can come and talk to our peer's in the industry ------------------------------ </rant> Yeah it's a long rant and a bit blunt but its 2am and I’m running new router config through a test harness FYI: This is my opinion and my opinion alone and does not reflect the company i work for Mark Foster wrote:

You're addressing a community effort. They wax and wane. You can't control them, you can only engage a discussion and hope that it pans out. I have a lot more understanding for your take on it than I do the whingers who screech that threads need to die though, that was a good rant. The same whingers never have anything useful to say, people who beg for "things to die" never post anything else. I propose that the moderators moderate, the talkers talk and the whingers get back to envying the mods more silently. Tristram Cheer wrote:

There doesn't appear to be any NS records listed for hinet.tw at the moment, so yes, everything for that domain will be broken for anyone who's DNS isn't holding cached records. This will be fixed when they decide to fix it. (Of course, all of you already know this, because you're network admins..).
Yes, Mail will queue for $predetermined_time (usually ~5 days) and then bounce with whatever problem the server has been having.
This issue should have been directed at postmaster(a)xtra.co.nz, who will have concluded the same thing.
"FYI, hinet.tw has busted their DNS, so expect your mail servers to be queueing/bouncing email for them, among other things." would have been somewhat relevant to the list, given that its a large network.
Except that the only real point here appears to be the lack of ability for people to actually read. <quote> For any Xtra techos out there, we have a customer getting mail sent back after 4 day with "Host msa.hinet.net is not responding" (See below) </quote> note the "hinet.NET" domain, NOT the .TW domain.
