I've seen the list, and response from Steve Phillips asking for time. I've received a copy of the SPAM in question. There is an accusation made that Domainz data was used to generate the SPAM. Freely available zone-xfers were turned off several months ago, so it is possible that an out of date zone-xfer could have been used. I have no idea beyond this what/how/why. There is no policy on this, other than the generic - "thou shalt not SPAM". It might be useful therefore that the industry generates it's own policy on this. What is a suitable penalty? An example of what could be easily implemented would be a modest delay to registration change overs. ================================================================== Recent SPAMMING of the entire .NZ by the Melbourne Company ING with the suggestion that failure to act would not permit pre-registration of .info and .biz resulted in the suspension of ability to do DNS changes. That company remains suspended until a meaningful "I'm Sorry" is forthcoming, at their expense. ================================================================= Two points. An "I'm Sorry" wouldn't go amiss. You know who you are. A thoughtful discouse would be useful about how transgressors may have their rights limited for a period of time, so as to encourage the correct behaviour would be something we would be happy to help create. DS3 problem

Hi, I'am writing from Perú, here we have a Nortel Passport 7400 with a 3 ports DS3 card. we are recently connected to other Passport in USA through Global Crossing (GC) SDH network. between the GC ADM and our Passport (ATM Switch) we have 50 meters of coaxial cable with BNC connectors. We checked the cable, its OK. the problem is that in the DS3 statistics, we have PathCodeViolations. we have this config used from USA to others places so we don´t know what is the problems (maybe the SDH network?). If the problem is in the SDH how can I detect it ?. I can find information about DS3 and PathCodeViolations. Thanks for all your replies. It is now working ok, with and without the dot at the end, thanks. Looks like the problem has cleared now. The reason I asked the original question is that the icq client failed instantly to connect. Usually it sits there for a while and then times out if the icq network is temporarily unreachable. strange results from nslookup of icq.mirabilis.com

Can anyone tell me why nslookup is adding my domain name on to an nslookup of icq.mirabilis.com ... and then trying to do a lookup on that ? G'day Adrian, nslookup will append the "default" domain name to the given host if the given host does not contain a trailing "." Perhaps that is what you are seeing when you set debug. I assume that you do not see strangness when debug is off (I don't). I'm trying to identify throughput speeds of typical low (and not so low) end network devices. With carrier networks that outperform many people's infrastructure, I'd like to have some sort of a list that says Cisco 1605R <p Mbps Cisco 2600 <q Mbps Win95/98 <y Mbps TCP WinME/2K <z Mbps TCP Any pointers to where such info might be found? Real-world is what I'd prefer. We hit this even with the cable modems where 2Mbps was faster than many PCs could make use of (three years ago). It's got worse. We can put Smartbits testers on links during commissioning, but that's not really helpful to the customers, who want at least some reasonable pointer as to why going from 64kbps to 1Gbps isn't giving them the throughput they expected.
