The sky tower is about the worst place in Auckland to do wireless from. The amount of noise coming off the sky tower is very high. You will only be able to cover a small area with each Cisco bridge due to interference around the CBD. The Cisco gear works in the 2.4Ghz Unlicensed band. The max power output is 4 watts at the antenna. The best thing on your home end would be a Linux box with a PCI cradle and Cisoc PCI card. James, Yes to (a), (b) (windows 13,14,15,16,17,18) - unless you are thinking of multiple antennae! and (c). Remembering of course that most of the cost is for international transit rather than the gear. However I'm sure that between us that wouldn't be a problem :)) I have already tested a Lucent Orinocco ROR1000 to my home (Bastion point) from the Sky Tower, Lvl 48 with great success. Same response as Juha's. I've always had an idea of having a wireless-internet or wireless LAN co-op after I read a slashdot story about it. The only prob I can see with this is the yearly rental of the space at the sky tower for the comms gear. Aparently it's a few thousand a year.
