Decommissioning of ns1.waikato.ac.nz

Please note that ns1.waikato.ac.nz will be decommissioned as the public secondary at the end of this month. The new public secondary is pubsec.domainz.net.nz. The charges for the new public secondary are the same as for the old one and will fall due on the same date. There is no charge for the transfer. If you are responsible for domain names using ns1.waikato.ac.nz can you either transfer them to the new public secondary or to another secondary of your own choosing. Before the weekend I will be mailing the name holders and technical contacts about the changes, so please bear in mind there will probably be an increase in help desk calls. The New Zealand Network Operators' Group The New Zealand Network Operators' Group (NZNOG) has no king, president or formal membership. At present it consists of the subscribers to this mailing list, which anyone is free to join. At last count the list had just over 170 subscribers, with the count growing by around five each month. The NZNOG mailing list is provided through a server at The University of Waikato, and is administered by an employee of Telecom NZ Ltd. Neither of these organisations (nor the administrator) is responsible for its content. NZNOG Mailing List Acceptable Use Policy The NZNOG mailing list exists to provide a forum for the exchange of technical information and the discussion of implementation issues that require cooperation among New Zealand network service providers. In order to continue to provide a useful forum for discussion of relevant technical issues, users of the list are asked to respect the following guidelines. 1. Discussion will focus on Internet operational and technical issues. 2. Discussion related to meetings of network service providers is appropriate. 3. Discussion unrelated to these topics is not appropriate. 4. Postings to multiple mailing lists are discouraged. 5. Postings that include foul language, character assassination, and lack of respect for other participants are unacceptable. 6. Blatant product or service marketing is unacceptable. 7. Postings of a political, philosophical or legal nature are discouraged. 8. Postings to the list should be in ASCII or MIME encoded as text/plain. Attachments should not be sent to the list. To present a document, a suitable URL may be referred to. For documents of general interest, the use of proprietary file formats is discouraged. 9. Breaches of list etiquette should be dealt with privately with the offending list user, and should not result in complaints being sent to the list. CityLink/WIX Outage

There will be a (hopefully) very brief outage on CityLink and WIX tonight somewhere between 5:30pm and 6:00pm while a backbone switch is upgraded. The outage will be while the switches pick up new MAC addresses and speeds are sorted out on some ports. This should be about 1 minute. Any customers affected after 6pm should call our Call Center on 385-9003. Network Operators with problems can call me on 021 897 089. Thanks for your co-operation. Hi, I appologize for duplicates. Its almost time for the next quarterly walk of the inverse tree of the DNS. Since 1997, I've been walking the in-addr tree looking for numbers of delegations, accurate delegations, and types and styles of error conditions. So... this is a heads up that you will be seeing zone transfers being generated by a couple of the collecter machines here. For those of you who utilize BINDs access controls, I'd appreciate your inclusion of the collector machines in allowed transfers. The expectation is that they will be the following IP addresses: 128.9.160.57 and 198.32.4.13 If there are any questions or concerns, I'd be happy to talk about them. Past data has been presented at IEPG, Apricot and RIPE meetings. The expectation is that future data will be presented in the same and similar forums.
