Simon was too lazy to post this so I was delegated the task... Below is a copy of Simon's post to NANOG. I decided we need to post it here as there's a few lines starting with AS476x which might be of interest to certain NZNOGers. 8) Lin Simon's post to NANOG In the last couple of days I have gone though the Smurf Amplifier Registry at http://www.powertech.no/smurf/ and checked which ASNs are currently advertising the networks listed there. My listing by ASN is on my web page at: http://www.darkmere.gen.nz/2000/0712.txt Please check this list for your own (and your peers/downstreams/friends) ASN and fix. You should then goto the Powertech site and check from there, if there is no problem then the Smurf Amplifier Registry will delete you from their list. I have already emailed the top 10 ASNs but I don't have a nice easy way to email the other 1000 so I have decided here would be the best start. Depending on how things go I might check again in about a month. Wanter: NPM-4T or 2T

This is going to seem like a silly question, but does anyone out there have (or know someone who has) a spare NPM-4T or 2T serial module for Cisco 4xxx series routers? I require one (personally, not for IHUG, or I'd just go buy one) but there are bugger-all of them on Ebay and none in the collections of anyone I know personally. I will happily pay minor to moderate $$$s for one, or swap it for (looks in collection) a working Cisco IGS-R router/bridge, and/or various other bits of junk. G'day all, I have steadfastly resisted publicly replying to Alan's comments about me on IRC and NZNOG in the past, however I feel that this latest occurrence rates mention. I have attached below the email that prompted Alan's recent post to NZNOG. I am sure that most will agree that Alan was only doing the responsible thing in fore warning us that another carriers netblock was about to be nominated for RBL, and if this one occurrence is taken in isolation then you could say that I was over reacting. This is not the case. Despite my repeated assurances that I have absolutely no influence, involvement or control over the networks and customers of Telstra Corporation Ltd (AS1221) I have continued to receive spam abuse mail from Alan. Alan has also repeatedly associated both myself and Telstra Saturn NZ Ltd with his ongoing dispute with Telstra Corp. in the public forum. Where I have received mail from Alan about those networks that I do have some influence over I have always endeavored to action them. Hopefully this post will make others aware of my position on this matter. I will leave the last word to Alan and his supporters, as I am sure that they will have more to say! Regards, Phill. Telstra AU headed back into MAPS RBL.

It's been widely confirmed that the new AUP has been simply created to shine MAPS on. Anyone buying bandwidth from Telstra/Saturn in NZ had better make sure that they're not in the main APNIC allocated Telstra /13, or they may find themselves caught up in the middle of it. The New Zealand Network Operators' Group

The New Zealand Network Operators' Group The New Zealand Network Operators' Group (NZNOG) has no king, president or formal membership. At present it consists of the subscribers to this mailing list, which anyone is free to join. At last count the list had just over 150 subscribers, with the count growing by around five each month. The NZNOG mailing list is provided through a server at The University of Waikato, and is administered by an employee of Telecom NZ Ltd. Neither of these organisations (nor the administrator) is responsible for its content. NZNOG Mailing List Acceptable Use Policy The NZNOG mailing list exists to provide a forum for the exchange of technical information and the discussion of implementation issues that require cooperation among New Zealand network service providers. In order to continue to provide a useful forum for discussion of relevant technical issues, users of the list are asked to respect the following guidelines. 1. Discussion will focus on Internet operational and technical issues. 2. Discussion related to meetings of network service providers is appropriate. 3. Discussion unrelated to these topics is not appropriate. 4. Postings to multiple mailing lists are discouraged. 5. Postings that include foul language, character assassination, and lack of respect for other participants are unacceptable. 6. Blatant product or service marketing is unacceptable. 7. Postings of a political, philosophical or legal nature are discouraged. 8. Postings to the list should be in ASCII or MIME encoded as text/plain. Attachments should not be sent to the list. To present a document, a suitable URL may be referred to. For documents of general interest, the use of proprietary file formats is discouraged. 9. Looking for recommendations

Seeking some opinions here, and hoping to draw on the collected wisdom of NZNOG ;). We are looking at finding a different registry for GTLDs. Currently we are using Network Solutions (their motto: "Send us a detailed e-mail explaining the issue and how our FAQ doesn't cover it, and we'll refer you to the FAQ!"), but are looking for somewhere where the service is a little bit better (ie exists). Leading options so far seems to be OpenSRS or INA, but we are open to suggestions. At the moment we are not processing a huge volume of these, but we are expecting this to increase. Ideally we want a fair price, fairly prompt service, good support, and the ability to run an account (or some form of pre-purchase) Please let us know who you've found do a good job and feel you can recommend. Possible Telecom outage

G'day all, You may like to know that Telecom have advised that they have 3 x 140Meg bearers down on the South Island westcoast affecting many thousands of their customers in Nelson, Greymouth etc. We were advised that this outage started at about 10:42 today. We have not been given an ETR by Telecom.
