FYI: Possible Telstra bandwidth problems in Aus..
by Simon Lyall 08 Feb '02

08 Feb '02

---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2002 19:13:49 +1100 (EST) From: Ross Wheeler <ross(a)home.albury.net.au> To: aussie-isp(a)aussie.net Subject: [Oz-ISP] Telstra minus lots of bandwidth into .au (Again) Approx 17:50 my pager started going off, seems international transit had become *real slow* all of a sudden - via both sydney and perth. Was initially unable to convince the telstra helpdesk that there was anything wrong, they tried to say of course it would be slow, the olympic games opening ceremony was on, and what else did I expect? Finally, one of their techs called, seems it had only just happened, the "cea-wea-mea-3" submarine cable was again out of service, and that they had nothing they could do about it except report it to reach.com who handle all their international links, and try to get some additional capacity via new zealand or something. I haven't seen an outage report or anything from them, I know, it's only been 90 minutes... don't rush it. Just a heads-up for those of you who have international transit via telstra to be aware. http://telstra.is.fuked.com/ shows how things are going. ---- email "unsubscribe aussie-isp" to majordomo(a)aussie.net to be removed. - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

Filter list updates
by James Tyson 04 Feb '02

04 Feb '02

Who thinks it would be a good idea to create a new mailling list specificially for updates of domestic peering policy and some bgp discussion that might be a little off-topic for this list? Every ISP seems to be running it's own distribution list for sending out filter list updates, and some of you might have noticed the Xtra list being hijacked for discussion the other day (snicker). Also, I don't mind hosting the list. This is a fraction vendor centric, but since GigE is everyones choice of internal connection, at the expense of that expensive, non-shared ATM rubbish so beloved by Telcos, I thought this was pertinent enough for a slight Rog rework of the announcement. /* brevity on..... */ 10 Gigabit Ethernet Modules now on general release. nznet list
by Lin Nah 31 Jan '02

31 Jan '02

For those of you with the numberplates to sell etc please go to the alternative list set up for these things Thanks Lin ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 11:36:59 +1200 (NZST) From: Matt Camp <gargoyle(a)noise.net.nz> Subject: Alternative List A while back an alternative list was proposed... most people seemed quite receptive to the idea... so it now exists. To subscribe, send a mail to majordomo(a)noise.net.nz with 'subscribe nznet' in the body. The alternative list is more informal, and more generally aimed at the NZ Networking industry. It may contain things such as details of used equipment for sale, and discussions which would be regarded as off topic here. Hopefully this will give us a place to discuss such things, and will keep the noise level down here somewhat. --- Matt Camp --------- To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog - To unsubscribe from nznog, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz where the body of your message reads: unsubscribe nznog

The New Zealand Network Operators' Group
by Donald Neal 31 Jan '02

31 Jan '02

The New Zealand Network Operators' Group The New Zealand Network Operators' Group (NZNOG) has no king, president or formal membership. At present it consists of the subscribers to this mailing list, which anyone is free to join. This list has around 320 subscribers, with the number rising by a few each month. You may only post to the list from an address subscribed to one of the lists described below. (Non-member postings and spam continue to be bounced in roughly equal volumes.) The NZNOG mailing list is provided through a server at The University of Waikato, and is administered by an employee of Telecom NZ Ltd. Neither of these organisations, nor the administrator, is responsible for its content. NZNOG Mailing List Acceptable Use Policy The NZNOG mailing list exists to provide a forum for the exchange of technical information and the discussion of implementation issues that require cooperation among New Zealand network service providers. In order to continue to provide a useful forum for discussion of relevant technical issues, users of the list are asked to respect the following guidelines. 1. Discussion will focus on Internet operational and technical issues. 2. Discussion related to meetings of network service providers is appropriate. 3. Discussion unrelated to these topics is not appropriate. 4. Postings to multiple mailing lists are discouraged. 5. Postings that include foul language, character assassination, and lack of respect for other participants are unacceptable. 6. Blatant product or service marketing is unacceptable. 7. Postings of a political, philosophical or legal nature are discouraged. 8. Postings to the list should be in ASCII or MIME encoded as text/plain. Attachments should not be sent to the list. To present a document, a suitable URL may be referred to. For documents of general interest, the use of proprietary file formats is discouraged. 9. Breaches of list etiquette should be dealt with privately with the offending list user, and should not result in complaints being sent to the list. 10. A person repeatedly breaching list etiquette shall receive warnings from the list administrator. A further breach after the second such warning within thirty days shall result in the offender being unsubscribed from the list. Other action may also be taken to block postings to the list by the offender. Any such unsubscription is to be immediately announced to the list. Mailing List Archives A full archive is available at http://list.waikato.ac.nz/archives/nznog/ Any message sent to the list will be archived and made available on the web automatically. Changes are not made to the archive on request, though the administrator remains happy to assist the Office of the Privacy Commissioner should any complaint be laid with that office. Subscribing to the List To subscribe to the NZNOG list, send email to majordomo(a)list.waikato.ac.nz, where the body of the message reads subscribe nznog Digest Mailing List If you don't wish to receive postings as they are sent, you can instead subscribe to the nznog-digest mailiing list, on which all postings are sent out in a single "digest" every couple of days. Post-only Mailing List An address from which you wish to post, but which will not receive messages from the list, may be subscribed to nznog-postonly. You will presumably want to have another address subscribed to the main nznog list. Other Activities Work is no under way towards a conference and social gathering to be held in Auckland in July 2002. Speakers, organisational workers and, yes, sponsors are sought. Voice over IP, wireless networking and IPv6 seem to be among the topics in which there's most interest. Donald Neal NZNOG Mailing List Owner/Administrator/Muggins This email message is a public document. I don't speak for Telecom and they don't speak for me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "This communication, including any attachments, is confidential.
